My name is Beatriz Vudoyra, I’m 26 years old and 16 years ago I suffered an accident that change my life completely. While I was training for a swimming competition, a boy pushed me to the swimming pool. This happens on a daily basis, children playing near the pool, and pushing each other to the water. Unfortunately for me, I fell in the wrong position, hitting my head against the pool’s concrete border and suffering a spinal cord injury that caused me to become C5/C6 incomplete cuadriplejic.

They say that what does not kill you, makes you stronger, and while my life had just turned 180 degrees, I was not going to settle and I was not going to let this defeat me. I never gave up and for a long time and with the help and support of my family and friends, I looked and research for a cure or a doctor that could treat my injury. I also have attended therapy and done multiple sacrifices, all with the objective of healing, improving, and most importantly, trying to get back to what should be the normal life of a girl of my age.

On February 1st of this year I was accepted by the UNIQUE ACCESS MEDICAL hospital to undergo a high level surgery in Bangkok, Thailand, which will allow me to be able to walk again. The date of the surgery is on July 31st, 2019. The decision was made after reviewing my medical record and evaluate MRI scans of my spine cord to see if it was able to place an electro stimulator and injections of stem cells into my spinal cord.
The treatment cost is $ 113,000 USD. The results of the surgery are practically immediate, after 3 days you begin to see improvements.

The surgery is the 1st step on the way for my full recovery. I must now follow strict therapy and exercises in order for me to continue improving and one day be able to walk again.

After 16 years of my injury, I’ve experienced very difficult times, with good and bad days. Today there is an opportunity for me to get back on my feet, take steps, improve sensory functions of my body, increase muscle mass, tone and strength, improve balance and coordination, and recover the autonomic functions in my body. It represents a big step in science and I’m very excited to participate in this treatment to improve significantly my quality of life up to 80%, because to this day there is nothing else I can do to continue improving and recovering the functions mentioned above.

This is why I am asking for your help and support. In order for me to reach the finish line in my dream of walking again, I need the resources to pay for the surgery and the last part of my rehabilitation. If I were to receive the resources I need, I would be forever grateful and would work to give back to society everything that has been given as support for myself. I would encourage young girls to fight for their dreams and would try to become the ray of hope a lot of people need when they are at their darkest moments.

I am a girl with a lot of goals and dreams, and what I desire the most is to be able to walk again. Please help me fulfill my dream; my recovery depends largely on my therapy, that’s why I really need your support.

Thank you for all your time, but especially for being part of this great challenge.
